Slower Manufacturing Growth Makes Sterling Weaker

The Great Britain pound slipped today as the unexpected drop of the UK manufacturing PMI caused investors to trim their bet on an increase of interest rates by Britain’s central bank.


The UK Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index dropped from 52.0 in May to 51.3 in June. Traders hoped for an increase to 52.2. The report also said that growth of employment was slowest in nine months.

GBP/USD dropped from 1.6053 to 1.6032 today as of 10:03 GMT after posing the intraday high of 1.6094 and the intraday low of 1.5987.

Higher South Korea’s Inflation Leads to Gains for Won



The South Korean won climbed today to the highest level in almost three years, heading to the second weekly gain, after the government report showed that inflation grew with faster pace last month.


South Korea’s consumer prices increased 4.4 percent in June from a year ago, compared to the 4.1 percent increase in May and the central bank’s 4 percent target. Exports rose 14.5 percent, leading to the trade surplus of $3.3 billion. The won also gained as Greece accepted steps needed to receive the bailout.

USD/KRW traded at 1,066.65 as of 10:28 GMT today after opening at 1,067.10 and falling as low as 1,063.75.

A Lorry collided with a tractor killing a child flees without stopping:

Today morning in Siyabalanduwa,an unfortunate tragic accident between a lorry and a tractor had resulted in the killing of a child who travelled in the tractor. The tractor was broken into pieces; the lorry driver had fled without stopping. A child who was travelling in the tractor had succumbed to his injuries at the spot.

Manoj Rajapaksa, son of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rakapaksa got married yesterday at the Hilton Hotel. The bride was a niece of the 1st Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.Hence the attesting witnesses were The President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the 1st Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, which was indeed a very significant moment for the wedded couple.
The Bridegroom, 29 year old Duminda Manoj Rajapaksa has completed his higher education at the Duke University,Durham in America and he is the only child of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Loma Rajapaksa.
